Moving domain names about and need help.

I've managed to get myself confused. With the death of my mates hosting leading to the loss of my blog I'm moving everything that was on that server over to my own server that I've got with hostgator. Currently I have it set up as one main domain for the server with the actual sites being setup as addon domains so that it looks like completely seperate sites when you browse them. My problem is that I want to change the main sites domain name and cant work out how. I managed it years ago and now im lost.

I want to go from -

main site
¬ site a
¬ site b
¬ site c

to -

site d
¬ main site
¬ site a
¬ site b
¬ site e

If that makes sense.

Any ideas?

"addon domains"

Are these subdomains, or completely different domain names?

Re: Moving domain names about and need help.

I think technically they are treated as subdomains but rather than just having the address show up as blog.sitea.com it can be accessed as www.siteb.com etc. As far as the user sees it if the enter via the second address they would never know its a subdomain as it treats everything in the subdomain blog as having the base address www.siteb.com

I havent a clue if thats all technically correct though

Re: Moving domain names about and need help.

Easiest way to do this? Call your nameservers and have them walk you through it.

I'm used to using Network Solutions and I can perform literal magic with their nameservers and hosting plans - the minute I touch GoDaddy.com's software, I'm on the phone with questions.

Re: Moving domain names about and need help.

I thought that might be the case. Just changed the name servers earlier tonight so once that propagates through overnight I'll drop them a ticket and see what needs to get done from there. Its times like this I wish I went with a UK host
