Wordpress Addon Help
Question for the folks using Wordpress: anyone know any good addons that give you nested/tiered comments?

The comment system is one thing that I really don't like about WP.

Hold on a week and its in the next update I believe. Could be wrong though but they im sure the comments are getting an overhaul after Wordpress's parent company bought over one of the companies making the best plugin that did just that.

Threaded comments are coming in with 2.7.

RC1 was released last thursday so I'd say a week or two at the most before nested/threaded comments are standard on a fresh WP install

It went live on WP.com today I think.

Sods law innit. As soon as I get round to acquiring something, it's replaced by something better.

Hopefully my host will upgrade it automatically.

It did, I had a wee play about with it earlier on

As for your host updating you'll probably find it'll be a while especially if its a fantastico installer they are using.

Best bet is to update it yourself or if your lazy like me install an autoupdate plugin which as far as im aware will let you know when 2.7 is available and do all the hardwork for you when it is. Again its a function they are building in to 2.7 so you wont need it after that. I've used it for all my blogs for the last 3-4 updates and its really easy.

I installed the lazy plugin, and apparently tomorrow (well today now) is the drop date for 2.7.

Additional features = good
New UI = WTF? This isn't progress!

They put a lot of wrk into that UI this time around. Looks like its mimicing one of the more popular admin mod plugins to be honest.

I don't care I've been using the same UI for two years now and I like it *grumbles*

2.7 seems to have slowed WP.com down to a crawl for some reason. Might just be increased traffic.

It's the slowdown thats making me think it'll be another few days before we see 2.7 finally being released for download. None of the other big WP blogs have mentioned it coming out today yet.

Well, I'm liking 2.7 so far. I have noticed that the admin frontpage is taking it's time to load now that it's all bells and whistles.

Any more recommendations for plugins?

And can anyone recommend good places to find themes?
I'm not happy with the one I've got just now - it's just a bit too bland and I don't have the CSS leetness to jazz it up any - but the ones in the WP themes directory are all too far from what I want or rubbish looking. Looking for a decent sized fixed width template with two side bar columns (preferably on the right), full widget compatibility, maybe a photo header

A lot of people have mentioned the admin page being slow recently. It speeds up a bit if you install Google Gears and click the turbo button.

My understanding is that the back end of pre 2.7 has been worked on and optimized a lot over the years where as this is an entirely new set of code. It may take a wee while to trim it down and speed up the loading.

as for themes

There arent that many free themes out there. Well there are but there arent that many decent ones.

I'm willing to pay for a decent wordpress theme, but just not yet.
Those sites have some designs that are pretty good visually. Hopefully find something that appeals more then the ones I've tried so far.

I'm astounded by the crap quality of some of the ones that come with WP as default. One of the ones I tried was unbelievably broken, and a couple of others have issues displaying things like long titles properly.

Those sites have some designs that are pretty good visually.

The themes you get with WP tend to be very basic to allow beginners to understand 'The Loop' and get a grip of the basic CSS it uses. Still looks shit as standard though.
