    Website hosting?

I'm looking to start a new website and dont have a clue where i can get the best deal(cos i dont know what im doing!). I was looking at godaddy.com cos it was the first thing that came up on google but im reluctant to pay for anything until i know its decent.

I'm not looking for something super technical but i'd like it to look decent and i also need to be able to sell on it. It would be a bonus if i could just buy my domain name from them too. Any advice much appreciated!!

    Re: Website hosting?

ive used various places over the past few years with equally varied success.

I've been with Supnames.co.uk for the past few months and they seem to be offering a great service.

Is there anything in particular you need? Mysql/mssql/php/.net etc?

They offer cheap windows hosting as well as Linux so there's plenty of choice.

    Free domain with them too!

I use freevirtualservers.co.uk for biffier, and diyhosts.co.uk for my other sites, they're excellent. I use freevirtual for the big site, because the customer service is excellent. I use diyhosts because it's even cheaper and I don't need support on the other sites.

I'll throw www.evohosting.co.uk in there as well, they've got a good starter package that works out at around £30/year with a free domain. I've used them before, really good service and support.

    i use http://www.penguin-uk.com

i think i pay something like 12 or 15 quid a year for hosting for each domain and they also sell domains (although i bought mine from 123-reg i think)

have always replied instantly to anything i've wanted help with, even in the middle of the night.

Anyone know a good (and cheap) .net host?

The webspace I have just now is php/mysql which I got just to fuck about with, but I'm a .net developer, so makes sense to actually get some .net hosting.

"Mysql/mssql/php/.net" - this is essentially a different language to me :s Its frustratin how little i know about this kind of stuff, and thats why im totally lost! here's what im after -

ideally a .co.uk domain(the one i want is available anyway)
I dont want to have to learn html or get someone to do the site for me, i want to do it myself so some relatively easy site builder would be ideal(although i do understand a tiny bit of html and can always read up on it a bit)
I want to be able to sell on it, so some kind of cart feature would be good.
I dont want to pay through the nose for it either if at all possible.

    I think thats it.

    Re: Website hosting?

I know you already had an etsy (although it was empty when I peeked) but make sure you register your name on Folksy too(even if it's just so someone else doesn't blag it for trading)...they're not charging a commission at the moment and it's UK based so nae monies lost with paypal conversion rates - quickest and easiest thing to do would just be to set up a blog with an Etsy mini or Folksy badge or summat....but obviously not ideal and not what you've asked for, sorry!
