| Wisdom Teeth Pain My wisdom teeth have been slowly edging into my mouth for a couple of years now, and haven't caused me too much pain since they broke the surface of my gum so I've pretty much ignored them except when they occasionally cut my cheek.
Today though, I have this fairly uncomfortable pain above the top right wisdom tooth. Not an unbearable pain but a very noticable dull ache that I've now had since I got up eight and a half hours ago. When I push on my tooth it hurts ever so slightly more.
It doesn't seem to be in any way squint, and it's about half way in now, but I do have a history of major overcrowding requiring more extractions than I care to remember and extensive (and unsuccessful) orthodontic work.
I was just wondering (since I know nothing about wisdom teeth apart from all the horrible stories I've heard about them), I have a scheduled dentist appointment in about six weeks: should I just wait for that, or will something horrible happen to my teeth if I wait too long to get this seen to?

| Re: Wisdom Teeth Pain I think you should get your wisdom teeth seen by your dentist just now and not wait for your appointment. I have wisdom teeth growing through sometimes it's very sore and i have to take painkilers i have had my wisdom teeth checked out at the dentist and he said there was nothing to worry about he said it will be sore sometimes intill the tooth finally grows through . But if there really sore like your describing then i would get to your dentist and get it checked out. |

| Re: Wisdom Teeth Pain i dunno. i ignore wisdom tooth pain and hope it'll go away. usually does in a day or two. if you were in unbearable agony id say try and get seen sooner but a dull ache sounds normal....

Just wondering about it because the pain is different to normal - it's sore around my cheekbone (or upper jaw, I don't know which is more accurate) and my face has gone a little puffy, which my workmates delighted in informing me of
Suppose I should try and get an earlier appointment just in case. I hate the dentist |

| Re: Wisdom Teeth Pain I had mine out a year ago they hadn't given me any trouble before,in fact Iwasn't even aware they were through until the dentist mentioned it in passing, anway back ontrack, I had excruciating agony one day and decided to go to the dentist it was that bad (normally I'm like nails me) it turns out one of them was sitting slightly lower than my back molar and some food had got impacted and had inflamed the root bed. The dentist put some horrible stuff on it to kill the infection and referred me to the Southern who took some xrays, decided two were crooked and 6 weeks later I had all 4 extracted, out patient styley with a local anesthetic. I'll tell you about the bruising and swelling once you've been to the dentist.
I would recommend getting an earlier appointment to avoid any secondary infection setting in. After seeing the dentist initially the stuff he put on it cleared it in a couple of hours, but it did re-occur twice before I had them extracted.

| Re: Wisdom Teeth Pain Go for the earlier appointment. The quicker they see it and diagnose it, the quicker the pain subsides and you're sorted. I have an almighty abnormal fear of dental surgery, but they're a necessary evil.

| Re: Wisdom Teeth Pain I used to be cool with dentists until my (now convicted of several things) orthodontist ordered all kinds of extractions in a short space of time... I now need to be held down to get an injection.
Cheers for the advice guys, shall phone the dentist straight after work. |

Ehm, aye (back on topic) because I had so many extractions done I wasn't able to chew food properly for years before my wisdoms came in. Now they're here and not a bother at all.
Hope you get yours sorted soon.

Same! I used to be fine with it until an old man (i refuse to call him a dentist) of at least 100 years old gave me an injection and said "so is it numb yet?"
To which I replied "No, it feels the way it always does"
He then said "Oh well it must be numb, it's been ten minutes" AND TOOK MY TOOTH OUT ANYWAY.
I've never felt pain like that in my life, I hooked him right on the jaw and everything mid-tooth-removal and had to have about 4 nurses hold me down. He then looked at my tooth and said "ah, that must have been a sore one,. you have very deep roots."
NO, it was a sore one because I had no painkillers you fuck!!!
*rage*

Ha, no, I got an emergency appointment at the Dental Hospital on Sauchiehall St through NHS 24 when I developed a blinding toothache. If only I'd known...
