horrible thing. i ate nothing but rusks for two weeks, never left the house due to feeling horrid.
rather annoyed at the fact of going through the slight trauma of getting the mmr twice only to get the damned thing from my sister anyway

| Re: mumps - The review Never had mumps *touches metaphorical wood* but when I got my usual pregnancy blood tests they showed that I wasn't immune to rubella although I definitely had a rubella jab (can't remember if it was the MMR - but I remember them talking about the rubella jab) so does it wear off quicker if you get them individually coz I'm pretty sure there was only about 10-15 years between jab and pregnancy.

I found it pretty painful after I ate. I also found it it quite embarresing because my face was huge.

Everyone is different though and the immunity you acquire from a vaccination is dependant on your unique HLA system. There is always a subset of the population who will not be resistant to the pathogen after a vaccination (depends which one, but generally around 5%) who are protected via the 'herd immunity' afforded in the population from the majority of vaccinees. The major reason why falling vaccination numbers spells trouble for everyone and not just the children who are deliberately left unprotected.

| Re: mumps - The review Well I'm not an immunoligist (I'm mainly concerned with the response to viral infection), but I can certainly answer a question or refer you to the correct place. Mandy, PM me or get me on MSM.

| Re: mumps - The review Hope you guys get better, I had the Mumps last November. Wasn't pretty. Will try find some photos of it.
But basically as hotblonde mentioned you can get it after the MMR jab, which is what I had. Your supposed to get boosters which I didn't get. I was rather incredulous when the doctor told me about this.
My balls are fine, not sterile (though admittedly never put it to the test lol), and I was in a lot of discomfort for a while, but not too much pain. Paracetamol and Ibruprofin cocktails are your friend!
Ice cream is good too.
Oh and all series' of Family Guy - kept me sane!
You you pair get well soon!

| Re: mumps - The review Clearly I didnt "stay away from everyone" well enough. Call me mumpy face.
I've got a question though. I've had swelling in the right side of my face since last sunday. A week, ten doctor visits, 2 types of antibiotics and a hospital stay later they settled on Mumps(idiots). yesterday was the best day, it wasn't noticeable and only flared up when i was eating(mumps is the best diet ever btw, you actually dont WANT to eat). So I was happy i seemed to be over the worst of it. This morning however the OTHER side of my face has swollen up a bit. This is really frustrating because i was feeling better, im still feeling better but now im kinda waiting for another week of pain, sickness and temperatures. What i'm really after someone to say here is "Oh hey that happened to me but it only flared up for a day and then went down again". Someone say it! |

You got the fever yet? | I went one better - woke up in the middle of the night screaming my face off because of the pain ended up in a+e and got co-codamol!! wahey. Im really fucked off with this now though. I'm not on painkillers just now because i refuse to believe that its coming back and it currently is just uncomfortable and not painful.
Ive not had a night out in NEARLY 3 WEEKS. I can't stand it. |
