| Spain rejects 'too skinny' models.. Hopefully this will set an example, but I doubt it.. Quote:
Real women will breathe a sigh of relief: waif-like models are being pushed off the catwalk. Spain's top fashion show is banning skinny women from taking part to promote a healthier image of the event.......
Organizers of Madrid Fashion week used a mathematical formula to calculate the models' body mass index - a measure of their weight in relation to their height. They found 30 percent of the women had a BMI under 18 and were too underweight to take part in the shows.
Esther Canadas, Spain's most well-known model does not qualify because she is said to have a BMI of only 14.
The decision was made as part of a voluntary agreement with the Madrid regional government. The Association of Fashion Designers of Spain. said in a statement it wanted models to project "an image of beauty and health" and shun a gaunt, emaciated look.

| Re: Spain rejects 'too skinny' models.. not really. if they need help to combat eating disorders they should get it. What this does is give a step in the right direction that allow girls to starve themselves into an early grave in the name of fashion and encouraging younger girls to follow their lead is no longer going to be tolerated. |

An ideal sort of weight/size is someone like Charlize Theron. She's not skinny and what a fabulous, voluptuous and healthy shape she be.

| Re: Spain rejects 'too skinny' models.. This kinda annoys me actually, I hate how it's socially acceptable to be x-amount overweight but if a girl's even a wee bit underweight she's branded as gaunt or claimed to have some terrible eating disorder. "Normal" BMI's generally seen to start at 18.5, so targeting models with a BMI under 18 seems slightly unfair.
I also resent the "real women will breathe a sigh of relief"... as if our lives are really gonna be influenced by this. Patronising fuckwits. Quote: |

I understand why she's a good role model in terms of the "celebrate your curves" thing but she seems to advocate eating a whole load of junk food. Surely that can't be good. |

| Re: Spain rejects 'too skinny' models.. Kicking out all of the "skinny" models in favour of "more normal" models is a complete joke.
So much for just having whoever is best for the job, go-go gadget positive discrimination mkII. |
