Toothache

I got a filling a couple of months ago and since then I've had a bit of toothache (I never had any before the fucking filling went in) and it all went tits up yesterday when the toothache was so bad that Helen's pre-op pills for her slipped disc were being necked by me and having no effect. I went to the dentist today and happily he's given me a couple of jabs and I now can't feel anything on my face

Turns out though that he's going to either have to yank out the tooth or give me canal surgery, I've opted for the canal surgery 'cos I don't want a gaping hole there (even though it's at the back).

I'm pretty clueless as to what this involves though, anyone else gone through it?

Re: Toothache

aye, it's like a filling but they pull out the roots and fill it that far up. It take more time, but the sensation of getting it done is only equally unpleasant.

My Dad had it, I shall ask him later. Don't think it was very pleasant.

Re: Toothache

It's not the worst thing in the world, once you're all numbed up then i found it more uncomfortable than actually painful.

Sore for a few days afterwards, but the relief of not having constant pain was fantastic!

I've stupidly booked it in before I'm due in at work one day, I've to get two half hour sessions but I take it the rest of the day will be a write off after each eh?

Re: Toothache

they will drill a big hole in the middle then scrape out all the crap in the middle. Then you will get a bleach treatment to kill the root. They will then give you a temp filling blocking in the bleach.

Some bleach will come out and it tastes like tree sap.

A couple of weeks later you go back and get the main filling in.

The only thing is that it will leave the tooth dead, weak and prone to breaking. In which case you will need a crown put on, which is pretty expensive.

Expect to pay in excess of £100 for the root treatment

it doesn't hurt much more than a filling and you will be perfectly fine after each session

That's what happened to mine.

I was in a bit of discomfort for a day after each treatment. Last thing I wanted to do was go to work.

Re: Toothache

Alos depends how you react to the anaesthetic, guy I work with has been having some treatment for the past few months and he's in a right state after, uncomfortable because of the work that has been done and groggy as hell from the drugs. He looks like a pissed off dog actually.

That sounds alright, the tooth where the root thing is going already has a deep filling so hopefully there'll not be too much more to clear out.

I could be doing without forking out £100+ right enough, now I know why dentists wear those masks.

Re: Toothache

See when you get a tooth pulled out, your other teeth move slightly and fill up the gap a bit. So it's not too gaping, but it's not a pleasant experience by any means.

Re: Toothache

Root canal's not that sore, it feels a bit weird when they hook the root and pull but it's not that bad. You may feel like you've been dug in the face after a couple of days but you'll be bright as sunshine in a week.
