| Nytol (And lack of sleep). Aas of late I've been staying up till the wee small hours doing course work, this has pretty much screwed my regular sleeping patern.
So to get back on track I tried some Nytol..And it was immense. Popped a pill and within 30mins i was asleep. (this was a week or so ago)
However, last night I find myself lying in bed till 3:30am awake, so I popped another Nytol and fell asleep. Then at 8am I wake up with my hearts beating out of my fucking chest (or, that's what it felt like)..I had Heart Palpitations and I was scared shitless.
So now I'm onto the herbal stuff.
Has anyone ever had similar problems?

| Re: Nytol (And lack of sleep). One of the side effects of diphenhydramine hydrochloride (Nytol) is tachycardia (fucked up heartbeat) - it's a known thing and should probably have been on the warning label on the bottle.
I still use melatonin to help my sleep pattern out. Had a run-in with a fucked up heartbeat issue with a Nytol similar product (in the US it's marketed as Benadryl, same ingredient and dosage but used as an antihistamine for allergy season) and switched over to 10mg of Zyrtec (a non-drowsy antihistamine) |

| Re: Nytol (And lack of sleep). Best trick is just to try and deal with your sleeping pattern. Your body needs time to adapt - give it that time.
Also, for at least 6 hours before bed (12 is better because caffeine stays in your body for ages) avoid food and drink containing stuff like caffeine which will keep you awake and stay away from computers for an hour or so before you want to sleep. Things like taking a bath and lying in bed reading should also help relax you and send you to sleep.
I also recommend a hot drink (coco or caffeine free tea) or a straight wiskey before bed. It'll do you the world of good.

I still use melatonin to help my sleep pattern out. | It probably was, but reading warning labels is for pussies.
Anyway tonight I'm on Herbal Nytol, but it was a strange experience.

| Re: Nytol (And lack of sleep). ive always been quite wary of these medications and have never tried any. when i have had sleep issues in the past ive used methods such as listening to relaxing music, drinking warm milk or putting a few drops of lavender oil onmy pillow.
i would def steer clear of anything that gives you heart palpitations tho

| Re: Nytol (And lack of sleep). Lavender is a placebo, really.
It does nothing.
But yea, I was suggested Nytol by my GF.

| Heathenous filthy statements! (mind you, my nervous system's an absolute train-wreck)
I need to completely drain my brain before sleep - reading, computering, gaming - anything to let it go through the motions otherwise I lay awake for ages contemplating stuff. |

There are 100's of things going through my mind. Nothing ever serious, I just find it hard to switch off.

| Re: Nytol (And lack of sleep). You should also avoid doing anything that involves your brain or reflexes, so internetting is a bit of a no-no. A 30 min 'cool off' period before bed will help loads.

The only think that keeps me going most the time is raw stress, but I can survive with a few hours sleep a night. Christ, I think I function at my peak with three to four hours sleep.
Anyway, my point was that Jamie needs to relax before bed. The caffeine guideline stands unless your consuming crap loads of the stuff.
But other then that, different strokes. Just do something to relax you - ask the lass to give you a massage, go for a run, have a few beers. What ever just makes you chill.
Also, get more exercise - that will tire you out

| I've been a bit under the weather the last week or so (bloody niece sneezed in my face - sister remarks afterwards "btw, she's sick"), so I've been neglecting my pill intake. Had a raging headache about 3-4 hours ago before I remembered my last caffeine dose was a few days ago. 400mg later (the equivalent of 12 or so cups of coffee) and I'm feeling a bit better.
I don't get stressed though, so I'm not sure what it's like to live off that. Probably about as good for the nervous system as my caffeine addiction |

It's good fun - like living off raw panic. It's also why I enjoy drinking so much.
