| Paracetemol and alcohol How long should you leave between taking paracetemol and drinking? Got a bad cold, which I'm attempting to blitz with paracetemol and large (2 litres a day) quantities of orange juice. It's the subcrawl tomorrow so of course I'll be drinking from about 1, so what's the latest time I can safely take anything? *I haven'd had one since half 6 this morning so if it's already too late that's no biggy*.

| Re: Paracetemol and alcohol Four hours.
I can't back this up if challenged.
Or zero minutes, providing you've a reasonably healthy liver.

| Re: Paracetemol and alcohol Couple of hours.
The only problem, I think, is that your liver has to clear out both the paracetomol and the alcohol. I don't think they interact dangerously.
So, off the top of my head, without consulting any other sources, I'd say it's actually unlikely to cause any problems but it might, so that's why they advise against it.

| Re: Paracetemol and alcohol Aye, 4 hours seems sensible as that's the time between tablets, but I suspect it may well require longer. Last thing I want is bad side effects

I have a great big pharmacology text book somewhere which is great for this kind of thing, I looked briefly for it and I can't see it amongst my books and I can't be arsed looking for it.

Chronic alcohol ingestion activates enzymes that transform acetaminophen (Tylenol and others) into chemicals that can cause liver damage, even when acetaminophen is used in standard therapeutic amounts (32,33). These effects may occur with as little as 2.6 grams of acetaminophen in persons consuming widely varying amounts of alcohol (34).

It produces shitloads of reactive oxygen species which cause DNA damage and widespread biomolecule damage leading to cancer and other shit, then there's this which you've pointed out.
