| Possible eye infection There's something up with my left eye. Obviously it's not too serious or I'd be running straight to my GP but it's irritating and uncomfortable enough that I could really do with getting it sorted, particularly since my only source of income at the mo is photography.
It's blurring my vision a bit, it feels like there's something stuck in it when there isn't and it's a wee bit swollen. After four or five days of this it's getting annoying.
Is it worth going to see an optician about it or will a pharmacist be able to give me some some drops that'll sort it? |

| Re: Possible eye infection I'd adv going to a doctor then if it is more serious they will referr you to an opthalmologist. Our nurse went to her GP and had Scleritis (felt like grit in her eye) and got an emergency referral to the Opthalmologist. Better to be safe than sorry specially with your eyes |

Trying to avoid the doctor... takes ten days to get an appointment if it's not an emergency. |

| Re: Possible eye infection You need a better doctor's surgery, Laura.
(Tell them you have chest pains and your left arm hurts. And that your legs have been ripped off by a combine harvester. They might fit you in in 3-5 days instead )

| Re: Possible eye infection Sounds like your retina's got a wee tear? I had that before, bloody annoying and not much you can do. If you go to the doctors they'll put dye in your eye so they can see it, and they'll probably give you drops to keep it clean. |

| Re: Possible eye infection Just rang them. Friday 5th October is their first appointment. 15 days away.
Change of thread purpose then. Anyone know of a good doctor in the west end that might see me in the same calendar month? |

| Re: Possible eye infection Alternative, if you're worried about it, go to somewhere with a decent pharmacy, talk to someone there, see what they say.
If it was me, and the doctor told me 15 days to see about a possible eye problem, I'd go straight into A&E..
How about phoneing NHS24.. or whatever the phone line thing is?

Al | To be fair, it's the receptionist that told me I'd have to wait fifteen days, the actual doctors in my surgery are pretty good.
Might just pop round to Boots and see what they say, they're reasonably good in there.
Just out of interest, how do you go about changing doctors anyway? Mine being in Pollokshields is a bit of a pain (and they are, demonstrably, useless). Do you just ring the new one up?
(only ever had two doctors in my life so total GP noob here) |

| Re: Possible eye infection Phone around doctors in the area. One saw me in Greenock once when I had a burst eardrum. A&E could be an option |

Cheers for all the help though folks, even if I am now terrified! |

| Re: Possible eye infection Went to the pharmacist who sent me to the optician. Turns out it's mild conjunctivitis. All sorted now, thanks for all the help |
