| Re: Tooth Extraction Aye I had to have my bottom left wisdom tooth out cause it was growing in the wrong direction. The dentist buggered it and only managed to get half the tooth out. Ended up having to go to the dental hospital where they had to cut the gum open and saw away at the bone to remove it.
The only reason I mention this is that this is pretty much the worst case scenario and to be honest it wasn't really as terrible as you'd imagine.
Plus, I got four days off work and enough painkillers to knock out a medium to large size horse. Happy days.

I'm sorry, gumsy. I do feel your pain though, I hate getting teeth out and might have to get one out soon. I'll be sure to post my pain to give you a wee bit of revenge.

Sarah xx | I'm tempted to post pics - for sheer icky blood-clot disgustingness but looking at it makes me queasy so I decided against.
You're extracting too? Excellent! Don't listen to Tacky - it hurts like fuck

| Re: Tooth Extraction Dont get straws. Repeat do NOT get straws.
The sucking action in smoking/drinking through straws can cause the blood clot/gunky stuff at the extraction site to dislodge causing "dry socket"
You DO NOT want dry socket. So no straws or smoking (or sooking) for a wee bit after the extraction.
Here you go:
Prevention of dry socket:
*
Women who use birth control pills or have their teeth removed in the first 22 days of the menstrual cycle are twice as likely to develop dry socket after an extraction. Schedule extractions during the last week of your menstrual cycle (days 23 through 28) ** when estrogen levels are low or inactive.
*
Avoid drinking through a straw
*
Avoid smoking, it contaminates the extraction site
*
Avoid excessive mouth rinsing, it interferes with blood clotting
*
Keeping food from impacting in this area. Chew on the other side of your mouth and gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water after the first 24 hours.
