| Excessive cramping in toes/feet/legs Right, this is seriously pissing me the fuck off, I can't sleep cause my toes keep cramping the fuck up, and my right hamstring is threatening to. I've drank 4 pints of water so far, hasn't helped a bit. Why the fuck? I want to sleep!
Someone help me. |

| Re: Excessive cramping in toes/feet/legs Potassium. Either pills or bananas (fast digestion on the bananas)...muscle cramps tend to be potassium loss, followed by lack of magnesium/calcium in the rankings list. Chugging water just helps dilute these minerals in yer body (water is good, Brawndo's got what your body craves - it's got electrolytes - but too much water...). Make like a monkey and nomnomnomnanas |

| Re: Excessive cramping in toes/feet/legs It can also be to do with you being cold. I find if i wake up with foot cramp, if i stand up and stretch the foot then put some socks on, it doesn't come back, but if i miss out the socks then it refuses to go away. |

| Re: Excessive cramping in toes/feet/legs I noticed you said somewhere you had a bad back. When my back was really bad I had a nigtmare with cramps in my legs waking me up every night. At it's worst I even woke up with cramps in my hands . A sore back throws everything out so it may be something to do with that.
Of course, it could also be something to do with the fact that you were absolutely wrecked the night before too |

| Re: Excessive cramping in toes/feet/legs Hi. I have this problem as well. You need to get some quinine you can get them from your gp, or drink of tonic water before bed (which you can get 3 for something at Somerfield) before you go to bed. For a short time fix, the only thing that works is stamping it out. Hurts like hell, but works. Try not sleeping with your legs straight, as this will make it worse.
Hope this helps.

| Re: Excessive cramping in toes/feet/legs It sounds like electrolyte loss, probably through drinking alcohol but can also be from exercise in combination with a low carb diet. The quick and dirty rescue remedy is eating some ready salted crisps. You'll probably find that if you eat something before you go out drinking, it won't happen again or often. The best meal to eat is something full of carbohydrates - pizza, pasta, bread and fruit. If you are on a special diet, take some supplements (but best to speak to your G.P as potassium supplements need to be carefully managed due to the cardiac effect). Barry used to suffer from this all the time until I changed his eating habits before he went out to work.
The quinine tip is a good one also.

I'll make myself a good isotonic drink later, see if its better tonight.
Having a cold probably isn't helping things either. |

So far I've had 2 bananas, some salty diluting juice, ready salted crisps, lots of water, some milk and the fucking bastards are still cramping up on me!
I'm going to kill someone. |

| Re: Excessive cramping in toes/feet/legs Do you wear high heels? If so, stop, will only make it worse.
Seriously, you'll need to give it time. Sometimes it can take a few hours, other times it can take a few days until your body electrolyte balance is corrected. Try to keep the circulation going, hot foot bath with some bath salts if you have any (or just actual salt) and wrap your feet up with warm towels after. If you've got a hot water bottle, sit them on that. Try the stretching exercises Jeff recommended; I know it's easier said than done if you're in pain or discomfort. |
