| Help toning up So, Im going to the gym 4 times a week, to do half an hour on the cross trainer, and half an hour on the bikes. I cant do treadmills because I have fuck all balance.
Ive decided to do sit ups and press ups at night, starting at 25 of each then building up. (Not sure to what, help on that would be great)
What I really want is tone my tummy, my arms, and my bum.
Am I doing the right things, and is there any tips anyone could offer me?
Ta!

| Re: Help toning up I'd help you but my tummy is the one part of my body I can't seem to control, even at my lightest I still looked slightly preggers.

| Re: Help toning up You probably should ask one of the trainers there, if you tell them hwat you want to achieve they tell you what machines to use. I dont know how you can goto the gym so much(well done though), i stopped going after one of the staff members used to try and talk to me when i was on the treadmill or on the cross trainer and I can't bloody talk and exercise. |

| Re: Help toning up Problem is, Im a bit shy. And all the trainers I've seen are fairly buff. I know that sounds really sad but Im uncomfortable enough in the gym as it is, and Id rather not have to if I could avoid it, to be honest!
I like the gym, once I get it into my routine its easy.

| Re: Help toning up Well rach, theres a machine that you sit upright on and you put your arms under a sorted bar thing and back up and you hold onto arm things at the side of your face, does that make sense? then you sorta do tummy crunches by leaning forward and then sitting back upright.
Thats good.
theres also one you sit on a down angle with your feet against a wall and push yourself up and down(youl like that hawhaw ) and you adjust the amount of weights you want to take with you

It's worth investing in a wee set of weights too. I've been pretty lax with mine, but it's a pretty good way to work out while watching Eastenders. Zest magazine usually has a fair numbers of toning exercises as well. |

| Re: Help toning up you dont need to do them for long
i usually do 5mins on 4 different machines or 10mins on 2 different ones about half way through my work out, then your body has warmed up but if you do them at the end, your muscles may be to tired from crosstrainer/bike
well thats what iv found in my experiances

Ive got weights, Im just not sure of what to do with them. Shall check that out though, ta.
Davi - Ive just got the attention span of a gnat on a hotplate, if it involves sitting still Im generally rubbish at it, which is why Id rather do things like squats (Cheers Greg) or situps.

Ive got weights, Im just not sure of what to do with them. Shall check that out though, ta. | Fair enough, but that's not one of the DVDs where you jump around a lot. There's a bit of cardio in the warm-up, but most of it revolves around fairly slow but intense toning. I don't think you'd bother anyone in the room below if you did that in the loft.
You should check out one of the Muscletone classes at Glasgow Uni gym, they usually show you the basic weights exercises. |
