| antibiotics + contraceptive
Ooook, so us ladies what are on Ye Olde Pille know that if you take a course of antibiotics then that affects how effective it is and you have to be extra careful.
I've been prescribed Tetralysal 300 [408mg] for my skin which apparantly is a 'mild' antibiotic. My doctor said it's ok and won't affect my Pill [Cileste], and it's just stronger antibiotics like things for chest infections that affect it. however, after reading the wee leaflet inside the Tetralysal, is says it WILL affect my Pill and I would have to be more careful.
Any of the medical boffins in here be able to shed some light on this? Obviously my doctor knows the contraceptive I'm on so maybe he knows that particular one is ok, whereas the box has to give general information on worst case scenarios. Although this IS the doctor that prescriped me Dianette as a contraceptive a year after it had been stopped as this and was only to be used as treatment for skin that so happendly had contraceptive properties.
So aye. Help! I have too many prescriptions right now and my head is spinning.

avoid the man jam.
even if its a mild antibiotic its still antibitoic and will still affect the pill. I wouldnt risk it. Christ, I don't even take anythign with echinacea in it, as that has a mild antibiotic effect.
I don't see the harm in being a bit more careful. | |

Fucking rage! I'm glad I have common sense and check these things. If I went on the word of my doctor and was a wee trollop who knows what I'd spawn. I think that man wants me to get pregnant and die by the sound of it. Grrr....

I couldn't be arsed reading all of this, but aye, do NOT have unprotected sex if you're taking antibiotics with the pill at the same time - made this mistake before... Contraception never fucking works for me anyway, Fuck

When I went to pick up the prescription, I had to go back the next day for another part of it as it wasn't in and and there was a problem with it so i was talking to the pharmisist about that, and I mention the anti biotics and my pill, and she was like 'I'm not sure, hang on I'll check' and she out my pill and the anti biotics into her computer and she was like 'yeah, totally affects that pill, he lied'.
Reckon I should report him or something? That's the second contraceptive related issue I've had with that doctor and Im lucky I think about these things and am easily paranoid as some people would just take what he's saying as truth.
