| Protein supplement I’ve been training pretty hard recently, been eating my meals during the day and before training but when i come home from mma training or just a session at the gym i am starving and sometimes it can be close to 10 o’clock.
I will come home and then have another meal late at night, i know this is bad for my training. My mate said get some protein shake mix and shove a handful of oats into it to fill me. Think this would work?
Basically i am trying to fill myself when i get home from training without taking in too many calories but also maybe trying to make it benefit me.
My current training is strength train, lost 2 and a half stone in the last year and dropped some muscle by doing so, so trying to build my strength up cause at mma training some guys just use strength to submit me and i don’t have the strength to counter.
Also now i am trying to lose a little more weight around my stomach so might be coming off strength training soon might just try balance out the cardio and weights for a couple of months.
Anyone know what i should be buying?
just been looking at Meal Replacements, think they might be helpful?

| Re: Protein supplement See if you get some Promax from Maximuscle, that's excellent.
You tend to have 2/3 shakes a day (Usually morning, during training and later on), and it really does fill you up and kill hunger.

| Re: Protein supplement If your wanting to lose weight then leave out carbs after 8pm! Have a few whey protein shakes with skimmed milk if you have hunger pangs. Meal replacements are terrible! Leave them if ya can. Stick to real foods!
Promax extreme is good but bloody expensive. I'm using Whey Instant by Reflex. It's £36 for 91 scoops and is just as good as the more expensive promax. I usually have 3 shakes a day. 1 first thing in the morning, 2nd right after the gym, and 3rd just before ma kip mixed with milk for slow release. |

| Re: Protein supplement I did use Promax Diet, which worked well but was too expensive. Now I use Smart-tec WheyFX. Pretty similar without the green tea, CLA and caffeine added, but I'm still losing fat slowly so it's working too. You can buy it from powerhouse fitness shop, which I'd recommend for whatever you buy as they'll price match anything, meaning the promax diet can be yours for 31 quid rather than 40. |

Found out about a BJJ class that runs at one of the gyms i train mma at, gonna go along and try it cause i would love to just do a class focused on BJJ rather than an mma class with some BJJ in it.
And the fish thing, gadz i would prolly through up as soon as i opened the packet, hate fish.
P.S congrats on the win at Cage Wars everyone keeps saying the other guy was a beast but i can't rember what he looked like. |

| Re: Protein supplement If you're doing BJJ as part of an MMA class the chances are your BJJ is pretty basic. If you want to avoid getting tapped then you should take the time to go to a BJJ class, if you're relying on strength to avoid subs then you've probably got a hole in your game.
Get to the BJJ class and you'll see the improvement when you go to the MMA class.

| Re: Protein supplement forgetting the mma , BJJ stuff, that's lovey's domain. if you're lookin to get strong then make sure you consume alot of carbs before you work, maximising energy in the gym and making sure you're training correctly. no point in strength trainin and firin out 8 reps n shit.
protein isn't gonna help you with strength, just used to feed muscle. If you're looking to gain some size then make sure you consume enough carbs aswell, so many people are caught up in the world of protein suppliments now they forget how important everythin else is. Shakes are in no way the be all and end all of food when it comes to proper training. I've come on so much better since switching to 6 solid food meals a day with just 2 whey shakes.
also if you are looking for strength gains, look at NOS suppliments etc, great boost for the workout.
If you do buy whey, myprotein.co.uk as advised before is beast, great prices and great quality stuff. Maximuscle stuff tastes like shit
Reflex is really tasty but no better than myprotein and is a bit dearer too
I'd be interested to see your general diet plan and training program.
I know of a really good site that should help clear everthin up for, and you prob wouldn't even need to post, just search through old topics. but not sure if there's some kind of policy for linking to other forums? |
