| Re: implanon i can't be bothered to read all of this thread but I'm due to get my implant replaced in October which is freaking me out a bit but it is the best thing ever - I haven't had a period at all on it, although a friend of mine went completely the other way and got hers pretty much all the time.
It freaks people out no end when you show them it too which is always funny.
Also, I'm not a mother and I'm not pregnant which in my book is a fabulous thing!
i haven't noticed any side effects at all and since i was so bad at taking my pill it was pretty much the only option for me and it really didn't hurt much at all although it was weird for a while afterwards as it's placed between 2 muscles so if i was lifting anything remotely heavy i could feel it pinched between them - odd but not sore and only lasted a couple of weeks.
i'd highly recommend it.

In all seriousness, I was told mirena was the creme de la creme of hormonal contraceptives and even with that I'm still getting hormonal skin breakouts and heavy crampy periods like clockwork. The injection made me bleed constantly for six months straight, the pill makes me gain weight and have bad skin. I'm contemplating the nuvaring but I reckon that if that doesn't work, I'm off to get my tubes tied. |

| Re: implanon I loved the part when she asked if it hurt when I didn't even know she'd started. I look round to see a metal straw sticking out my arm and had a panic attack.
A couple of months later... 'IF YOU DON'T GET THIS OUT OF ME I WILL FUCKING RIP IT OUT MYSELF, RIGHT NOW, RIGHT HERE AND FEED IT TO YOU!!~'
She convinced me that the mood swings and suicidal depression would probably ease if I gave it a chance to settle in and y'know what, it did after a year |

But yeah thanks, make all important decisions like that together. She originally got the implant because she sometimes has high blood pressure, that the injection was exasperating. Though since that we discovered that she actually just has "white coat syndrome", where your terrified of doctors/dentists/etc and your blood pressure raises as a result. lulz. I feel I must add: I FUCKING LOVE BEING A MAN. I DON'T NEED INJECTIONS, PILLS, OR TAMPONS. YASS!
I respect you ladies. All that, plus corsets and high heels. Ouch.

It's not quite as reliable as the hormonal methods but you won't get the hormonal swings.
Have you discussed getting your tubes tied? It is reversible, but they don't really like doing it unless there are pretty strong reasons to do it (like one of your children dying - obviously very very unlikely). I'd think they'd do it for you - you're young but you have 3 kids and are married so I'm sure they'll think you've thought it through and had as many kids as you want.
I keep forgetting to call into the Sandyford to ask about a Mirena... Whereabout's is it, anyway? |

I keep forgetting to call into the Sandyford to ask about a Mirena... Whereabout's is it, anyway? | I've discussed it with Bob and in general terms with the health visitor but that's as far as it's got because I'm really not 100% sure if I've finished my family. Bob was booked in for the snip and I asked him to cancel it because I had changed my mind. We're on pretty good terms with our Doctors so getting a referral wouldn't be an issue but nnnnnnng... I dunno. They asked Bob all those questions before he got his referral "but what if your kids died" "but what if one of your kids had a life threatening cancer and only another sibling could save his/her life" which is just mental because there's no way you can answer that until you're in the position.
The mirena is put in your womb, Doctor. |

| Re: implanon I meant where's the Sandyford OBVIOUSLY!
I can't remember exactly, but I think female sterilisation is more reversible than male (I'd have to look it up, though). If you're not sure then I wouldn't go for it, though, cos as I said they'll only reverse it if you have a really good reason, and sometimes it doesn't work. Using a combination of a copper IUD and another non-hormonal contraception (like condoms or the cap) might be effective. It's a tricky one, though. |

I'm no doctor though
Vonnie - you considered the implant?
the pill made me gain weight too. As the doctor so politely pointed out though, it doesn't ACTUALLY make you gain weight. It increases your appetite. You giving in to it makes you gain weight
Cheers docotr! |
