| Changing your pill. I know theres a fair few pill threads on here, but Im not sure any of them really solve what Im asking.
Because of my dodgy vein in my leg, my doctor took me off of dianette, which I've been on for years, and onto microgynon.
Now, I used to get mood swings and a bit of cramp, but I'm really, really suffering just now. To the point where I want to be sick. And I'm really badly over heated - I cant seem to cool down and its playing havoc with my sleep and just making me feel shitty. I've been on it 3 months now and its happened every time I come off it for my week.
Two questions - what can I take to make it better? Ive only ever had to take paracetamol before and its not helping. Also, is this normal/will it settle down? I'm going to my doctors in 2 weeks (He's on holiday), but Im loathe to have to change my pill again if it might settle down.

| Re: Changing your pill. depends on your doctor. I'm on Yasmin (Dianette gave me BELTING migraines) and initially side effects were terrible, sore tender hyuge boobs, and hair loss (head hair) and doctor told me to "give it time to settle" and that "theres side effects with every pill, and you have to weigh up if the pill is worth those side effects"
Re the overheating, have you tried lying underneath a damp towel? I know it sounds horrid, but it does really help cool you down in bed. Also try to hang a damp sheet over your window at night - it really cools the room down. Just out the washing machine damp.
Paracetamol to lower your temperature and also cold drinks like iced water/tea.
Microgynon (cheapest pill) is quite high in its androgenic dosage if I remember correctly, so I can't use it but I do remember that Celeste, whilst being a cheap pill was really good until I changed to Dianette to combat my PCOS acne. Have a swatch at Celeste on the web to see if you think it would be any good.
Failing that what about running more packs together. You can run 2-3 together at a time without it being a problem, and in the interim means you only get one bad week every 2-3 months instead of every month? |

| Re: Changing your pill. i didn't have a problem with Microgynon. The biggest one was the couple stones of weight gain I piled on. Not due to the actual pill itself, but because it increases your appetite which I was shite at ignoring.
It did take a few months to settle down with me though and i got really weepy / upset for no reason during the week off
On the implant now. Not had a single bit of bother or period in about 7 weeks, and the constant release of hormone every day has combated the depressed moods . SCORE! |

| Re: Changing your pill. Im on Microgynon and the only problem ive got is being a bit more emotional on my week off, other than that not had any problems with it. I tried running my packs together but then I just seemed to bleed all the time on the weeks when I wasnt suppose to

| Re: Changing your pill. God sake - i thought it was just me that over-heated! I cancelled on my mates one night because i was so warm i was sweating through my nice outfit, and when i get too hot, i get angry and turn into....THE INCREDIBLE HULK! Well, more or less! I had to sit in my underwear, windows open, drinking a glass full of ice and water - was still roasting!

| Re: Changing your pill. i was on microgynon when i first went on the pill (for horrific periods) and it made them worse. so much so that i was bedridden for 4 or 5 days (instead of the normal 2 0r 3) and was very sickmore than once with it. came off it after 6 months and was on cilest for about 8 years, then moved to femodette (i think, that could be something else entirely). im now not on anything, and its grand. my periods are a peice of cake now. though when im back in a relationship ill probably go back on the last one i was on. in my experience micrgynon sucks.

| Re: Changing your pill. Well, i kinda need to be on it, otherwise i get my periods twice a month. Which sucks. It regulates my periods, so i put up with the side effects. According to a girl i used to work with, im gonna have the menopause early because my periods are naturally more often and all women have the same amount of eggs. Was nice to be told that!

| Re: Changing your pill. But, having it twice a month is really unpleasant! Man, was so heavy and i remember walking to school and having to stop dead in my tracks with the pain from the cramps!
Ok, so it probably has increased my appetite - but ive always been a greedy bugger. Plus it reduces the chances of me inadvertently getting pregnant, which is something i personally am too young for!

also i have nothing against the pill, just microgynon. any pill will regulate your periods. Quote:

NOT FUN.

I quite like my 'phew, not preggers' moments.

But judging by some of the other posts in this thread (and compared with the horrible cramps / depression / spots I got on my period before I went on it) a side effect like that isn't too much to put up with. It's kinda hard to judge whether it affects me emotionally or not, I wasn't paying much attention to that aspect when I first went on it. Quote:

Even on the pill I feel pretty bloated before my week off, surely that feeling'd just build up over time...?
Good luck, Rach, hope you get it sorted out soon. (Y) |

| Re: Changing your pill. The bleed you have with the pill is not a real period though hence why you shouldnt rely on it for pregger scares. I love Microgynon. No probs with it at all. Was considering the implant but the idea of having constant periods (if im one of the lucky few) fills me with dread |
