| Re: Cold Sores / Mouth Ulcers I constantly get mouth ulcers you either have to just get used to them or try out Boots own Mouth sweets, theyre like little orange sweets and it only costs about £2.00 a little box, plus theyre really good, better than bonjela.
And if anyone else is bothered by mouth ulcers also use Listernine mouth wash after you brush your teeth that has really helped. |

Mouth ulcers:
Anbesol liquid and gel sting and taste like shit so I just stick to Bonjela which also sticks to yor mouth better.
You can get Rinstead pastels and rinse specifically for ulcers but I haven't tried them before.
Try rinsing your mouth out with salt water, an antiseptic mouth wash (i.e. Corsodyl) or even soluble aspirin.
If you get them a lot it might be because you've been stressed out or run down recently in which case a pick-me-up tonic or some vitiman B would do you good.
Cold sores:
If the cold sore has already broken out then fuck paying out 6 quid for Zovirax because it wont be too effective, just stick to something cheap.
Also if it has already broken out there's a brand called Soothlip which is a lot cheaper and should work identically.
I've got mouth ulcers just now and I'm gonna smack my face off a wall in a minute. Last night to make matters worse I drunk what I thought was a cooled down cup of tea and it just flared them right back up. |

that combined with medicated mouthwash stuff you can buy over the counter in chemists. |

It tastes like feet and does nothing for th epain, but it does tend to rid you of the ulcer within a day or 2 if you use it 3/4 times a day. |

yup, i generally use the stuff along with the anbesol, cos of the sugary pastey glue like nature of the adcortyl it strings like a motherfucker when you apply it.
i've had them that bad at one point nothing would shift them for weeks and all the GP did was tell me to buy mouthwash, use anbesol and the adcortyl and give me vitamin tablets.
so i guess bar blood tests to find out what it is if you get them lots, there's not huge amounts you can do really. |

| Re: Cold Sores / Mouth Ulcers Rubbing toothpaste on mouth ulcers is one of the best remedies for them and swishing salt water around your mouth is also quite good, tho' utterly vile to do. With regards cold sores, they're caused by HSV-1 and once you have 'em you're not getting rid. Latent virus will reactivate due to stress but mainly U.V light triggers them (which is why you'll get a bout of reactivation on holiday or if you ski). Zovirax (or anything containing acyclovir) will stop DNA replication of the virus, but it has to be applied at the earliest signs or you're as well waiting till the virus goes back into maintenance stage of latency in your sensory neurons (where it lives forever, until reactivation again...or host death - which is the infected person).

i dont use anything else on ulcers. I find bonjela utterly useless(despite the advert for the bonjela cool with those wee gel men that sit on your ulcer and soothe it away - IF ONLY). |
