Re: Eczema

I use aveeno moisturising cream and lotion and also oilatum shower gels stuff. I also use vaseline for immediate relief on the bits that are really bad.

I think though, the trick is to try and keep it moisturised, even if it means putting cream on every hour, or half hour. I often put 3 or 4 layers of cream on at a time. Also there are so many different type of creams that you could use, but the trick is to experiment and find one that works for you as not everyone's body reacts in the same way.

Bath and 50/50 or E45 bath oil. Try that, I like it for night time.

BTW if anyone is wondering what 50/50 is, its (and not alcohol as Jody suggested!) its a 50% mixture of liquid paraffin and 50% of white soft paraffin.

Re: Eczema

What is eczema? I mean, I know what it is, but biologically speaking? What's the basis of it? Is it an umbrella term for different kinds of dermatitis? Or is eczema a specific kind of dermatitis?

I can't be arsed looking it up right now.

Re: Eczema

I have acute dermititis in my ear canals It never goes away and the sprays i get can only be open for 4 weeks, which imo is a complete waste of £6 odds. It can get really bad where i scratch it till my ears bleed and it's also been known to travel down the side of my face, thankfully that hasnt happened for a few years. Just now it's bearable, but i have to clean my ears twice a day so there's not a buildup of moisture in there. Doesnt help that I dont produce earwax :/

Re: Eczema

Devin's eczema flares up when he goes to stay with his dad, probably because of the change of environment. Last time it took a month of putting Fuscidin on the really bad bits, slapping diprobase on every night and giving him a bath in diprobath 3 times a week to sort it out.

I find using the diprobase keeps it at bay most of the time, but you really have to slap it on thickly.

Basically Atopic Dermatitis. Causes can be anything - internally (ie food, stress etc) or externally (lanolin - me!, metals, make up etc)

Mine had gone away for years til october 05 when it made a mad reappearance. Unless i'm allergic to Mick no idea what's making it be mental

For some reason I always associate eczema with fat teenage girls cutting their thighs with kitchen knives.

God knows why.

Mine has flared up at the moment as well. You really do have to just slap the moisturiser on. I find as long as i don't rub it in too much and just leave it to soak in then it doesn't make me too itchy. It also helps to have something else to concentrate on and to do with your hands whilst you're waiting for it to soak in so you get distracted from the itching.

Re: Eczema

This time of year is a total bitch on my skin. I really need to get to the doctors to get something with a steroid in it, something I can't get over the counter. E45 is all well and good but if the skin has got cracked/infected (in my experience) it's of little use beyond a bit of light relief. I managed to find some Unguentum M which is keeping it at bay at the moment, but still, doctors...

Re: Eczema

I think I have it too I had a crazy rash on my hips that I couldn't figure out what the hell it was til I realised it looked pretty much the same as Kirsten's Next time it reappears I'll pop to the docs for a proper check tho.

I've got good willpower for not scratching but it's still left a mark on my skin Above my France birthmark, so it looks like a bunch of islands.
