| Re: who ate all the mince pies... I know this feeling so well.
September/October time I was feeling great cos I was eating less crap and loads of fresh foods, and going to the gym 3 times a week. It was amazing because it didn't feel like a chore at all. I lost over a stone and I didn't feel like I was depriving myself of anything.
The past couple of months I've been crap and have piled the weight back on. I really want lose more before the wedding in March so the plan is:
Go to the gym Monday, Wednesday and Friday after work (when I stick to that routine I love it and actually look forward to going).
Stop buying fizzy juice.
Try to cut down on alcohol and chocolate.
However it's my birthday tomorrow, so this wonderful new plan will have to wait a couple of days

| Re: who ate all the mince pies... Aye, I'm doing this too. I thought I'd gained LOADS over Christmas: in reality it's only a pound but I've been feeling really bloated and rubbish and have been wanting to lose weight for a while.
Best tips are the ones already mentioned, but here's a couple more:
- Get an exercise DVD, the gym can be too daunting when you're looking like shite. There's shitloads coming out around now, but I reckon any decent one will do. Callanetics gets quick results and gives you a wee laugh, despite the pain.
- Although I don't *do* Weightwatchers, some of their products are amazing. Their tins of soup (74 cals for tomato) and bread (49 calories a slice for white, compared to 80 for the normal stuff)... that's less than 130 calories for a filling lunch.
- Mini Milks are an excellent, excellent snack. 30 calories a pop and there's a lot of eating in 'em.
- Drink lots of water. It's free!
- Paul McKenna's weight loss CD isn't as stupid as it sounds. Thing is, it doesn't *seem* like hypnosis. Everything he says is just sensible stuff anyway: stop eating when you're full, leave at least one wee thing to get you out of the "can't waste food" mindset, visualise your thin self to give you a goal...
- If you haven't already, switch to spirits and diet mixers, or white wine. I did *try* and limit alcohol intake as well, but if you get drunk you end up dancing all night, thus burning even more calories. See the logic?
- Walk places instead of hopping on the bus or taking the car. After I'd been at uni a month I started getting comments on the weight I'd lost in my legs, I wasn't doing anything else except a 20-minute walk each way there. And walking home (if possible) after a night-out saves money on a taxi AND lets you walk off some of the alcohol.
- Whenever you think of getting a takeaway, go for an alternative (thin-based fresh supermarket pizza instead of Dominoes, oven-chips instead of chip-shop chips, etc) and stick the money you saved in a wee jar. It's almost as good, and seeing the cash you saved is an incentive not to bother with takeaways in future. |

| Re: who ate all the mince pies... I lost 2 and a half stone in 4 months just from eating soup+1 slice of bread in the morning/afternoon, being active for most of the day(I never really stick to actual excercising)then having a small dinner when I get home. Admittedly not the healthiest way to do it but the weight practically fell off me. Piled on a few pounds over the holidays so i'm back to doing that for a month then just eating normally/going swimming regularly.
Like i said it's not a very healthy option, but its good for fast weight loss. Plus if I go out drinking I spend less than a tenner before im pretty much drunk.

| Re: who ate all the mince pies... Normally around this time of the year I'm "pure greetin" because I have to squeeze so hard to get into my trousers and blissfully await february to come which is when I usually return to my usual size, but this year its weird cos I've actually lost weight over christmas. Probably something to do with not eating as much sweet stuff as I used to ( no selection boxes this year, *sob*), and I did have a bout of tummy related problems, so that might be something to do with it... But I do so hate diets! Never done one as the mere thought of abandoning any of my fav foods usually sends me racing to stock up on double my usual intake! |

| Re: who ate all the mince pies... I've managed to avoid weight gain this xmas (usually its a problem) but its put a bump in a decent stream of loss up to that point. I dont go for any of these fad diets, i just eat less and exercise more. Little things usually help - example, if you eat cereal at breakfast try actually measuring out a proper 'portion'. You'd be surprised how many extra calories you're eating first thing in the day. If I can shift say 10lbs in about a month, I'll be happy with that. Started back on the weight training, but I'm in for an operation on my shoulder soon(ish) so I cant really hit the gym with any severity

| Re: who ate all the mince pies... my sister swears by the GI diet, she bough a book on it a couple of months ago and has managed to lose a lot of weight its just about eating healthy and sensibly, ya know lots of fruit, veg, water, brown rice etc but cool it on the bad 'white' carbs and fat. all just common sense i think
good luck |

| Re: who ate all the mince pies... ^ I have every sympathy for you. even if I am a bit jealous! Ive got a mate like that and people dont seem to realise how much of a problem it can be.
Good luck to you too, and everyone else
Im just eating loads of fruit and Rowsbette, you're right, campbells low fat condensed stuff is great too, but weight watchers cheese is ming!
Feel a lot better now than I did on Atkins, my skin's starting to clear up already and Im sleeping properly again.
See, I dont have a problem walking everywhere, unless its freezing and Ive got a chest infection. Gym Ball sounds fun, Im sure my man could do with a laugh!
