Thing is, he's right. If you just resign yourself to the fact you WILL change for the better, it gets a lot easier. As everyone's said, all these fad diets are gash. We all *know* exactly how we could change our diet for the better, we just never do.
And Vicki, don't you DARE go on a 900/1000 a day diet! Ruth's right, you'll just screw up your metabolism so when you back to eating sensibly it'll all go back on. There was a diet back in the eighties (the Cambridge Diet) that involved just 330 calories a day, I'd be interested to see if that was still considered a safe way to lose weight. Anyone know? |

| Re: Diet "myths".... Seriously obese people can be put on an extremely low calorie diet by their doctor as long as they eat the correct foods when they do eat. It's only for the short term and must be altered to a maintainable diet to keep the weight off, but it does work if the person's weight is critical. |

| Re: Diet "myths".... Fad diets are totally stupid. If you want to lose weight you need to use more energy than you take in. The only way to do that is to exercise more or eat less or both. Why in the name of all that is good would eating a grapefruit after each meal help you lose weight? The grapefruit has calories, the meal has calories, if you don't use up those calories then the energy will be stored and you'll get fatter. The actual concept behind weight loss really couldn't be any simpler.

| Re: Diet "myths".... i used to be obsessed with dieting but there really is no need. so long as you eat healthy and eat the 'right' type of foods and do regular exercise weight shouldn't be an issue. i tried taking all those herbal pills from semi-chem etc but think it is all psychological. did buy sum pills of ebay tho guaranteed weight loss bla bla bla... basically it was just like taking speed. supressed your appetite, gave you loads of energy and sped up your metabolism. they did work but fucked up my body up and i couldnt sleep properly for weeks never again!

| Re: Diet "myths".... I dont even bother counting calories, Ive lost a stone so far just eating sensibly and walking everywhere I possibly can.
Also, Ive not been drinking for ages, which i think might have something to do with it.

technically i am obese at the moment - but i also have a thyroid problem which i have been told could be a factor of it and also i am on the jag (and used to be on microgynon - one of the worse contriceptive pills as you gail masses of weight)
just 3 years ago i was a 10-12 now im 16-18 and its seriously pissing me off! i have never felt so big in my life - and its beginning to affect my personality i think - because i know im fat i think everyone else is thinking the same.
for now i will calorie count - im keeping within my limits and using most of my points and not starving myself - we will see if anything happens in the weeks ahead. will be signing up for a gym/classes hopefully at end of month so this should help.....
........if worse comes to worse....i will find somewhere for the fatjab |

| Re: Diet "myths".... In an effort to balance this a little... I've eaten cheese on toast (2 slices), a 'Rip Rolls' -40 inches of sour chewy candy, a Twirl, Spicy Nik Naks, Salt and vinegar McCoy's, Minstrels, Wonka fudgey mallowy (or something) bar and probably more I can't remember today, and I feel great (if a little jumpy and sick)

| Re: Diet "myths".... I was always sceptical about the theory that if you eat slowly you'll feel fuller, so tonight I ate my dinner *really slowly* (this is coming from somone who has a habit of eating fast) - and I am totally stuffed! I actually had less than I usually would (it's a regular meal I have and I took less than I usually do, no doubt about it) but I'm still totally stuffed full. If you want to feel fuller for longer then eat a healthy meal, and take small bites and chew them up properly |
