| Diet "myths".... as a soon to be skinny person yeh right i have been talking to a lot of girls in my work and who i hang around with who are currently dieting. At the moment i am currently watching what i am eating but i have heard many people swear by certain items to help speed up losing weight.
the main one is Grapefruit - eat it after every meal and apparently it helps your weight slowly disappear.
the other vinigar - take a spoonful or put it on items you eat and the same above is suppost to happen.
any truth in this "advise" or is a lot of pooey!
any other items which you have heard are suppost to work - "stop eating" not being one of them |

| Re: Diet "myths".... diets are crap. Celebrity diets are a waste of time. Fad diets dont work on the long term.
I lost 2 stone in the last year by eating better and walking more places. I didnt follow any diet plan, just stopped eating shite between meals. I still eat the same meals but with none of the crap inbetween. Instead of driving across to the esso, i make the 1 minute journey on foot.
Moral of the story. Stop eating crap and walk more. thats it |

| Re: Diet "myths".... Well there is such a thing as a Grapefruit Diet and Cider Vinegar tablets do get sold to aid in weight loss. Summat to do with breaking down fatty cells and flushing them outta teh body. Neilther work on their own but as part of a balanced healthy diet with exercise should work! |

| Re: Diet "myths".... at the moment i have stopped all sweets and choco passing these lips - and doing well. had a bit as a treat a week ago but im doing v.well.
but i cant believe how much i read the back of cans to see the calories - EVERYTHING i pick up i read.....its becoming annoying now lol.
at the moment i am sticking to using 2000 calories each day - i cant see any improvements but i feel a bit better.
the vinegar thing would be cool if it was true because i put that stuff on everything. if it was i should be about 6 stone at the moment! |

| Re: Diet "myths".... I discovered the great secret to dieting about 4 months ago.
There is no magic recipe.
All the quick fixes, the magic recipes, the gimicks... are just rubbish - old wives tales.
There are some things that will *assist* you in losing weight if you're already in a position to lose weight. That is, if you're burning more calories than you're eating.
I'm sticking to 1500 calories per day (give or take 250or so), and it's working. It's been about changing eating patterns, rather than dieting. It took me about 5 years to get that out of shape (and that was - A LOT - out of shape) - so i'm happy to spend a year or so sorting it out.
The thing that worked best for me was keeping a food diary - what is was, calories, fat. It makes you realise what you're eating much more and really does change the way you're eating - i'm exactly the same as Tsunamibabe - i HAVe to know how much i'm eating. After a while, you get used to it though and start to know.
I still eat chocolate, and have desserts, chips - all the things i used to eat loads of - the difference i know exactly how much of each I can have.
To date I've lost about 33lbs. Still a fair bit to go, but i'm increasing my running/jogging now, so that helps too. Just cutting back on your intake will get you to lose weight, but starting exercising made a dramatic difference to me - and it meant that as I lost pounds, i lost inches as well. I've got clothes that I haven't had fitting for YEARS on just now. Pity it's only the jeans and stuff I could keep - the rest of it was hiedeously dated looking... |

| Re: Diet "myths".... Brush your teeth after eating, and keep sugar free chewing gum on you. It means you wont eat anything else (in theory) because it mings.
Works for me.
Also, sugar free jelly is the way to go.
No offence, but is 2000 not a bit much if you wanna lose weight? I tend to stick to about 1400, if I can.
Also, eat soup before a meal, helps fill you up quicker so you dont eat as much.

| Re: Diet "myths".... 2000kcal is what is usually recommended for men and 1500kcal for women so yeah, you might actually want to take that down a bit...
If you're interested, and if I can be bothered I can work out your metabolism for you roughly |

Come on man... dieting is crap. If it's a diet, then one day it'll end, and you'll go back to eating what you were before, and put the weight on again. Lifestyle changes, all the way. |

| Re: Diet "myths".... Oh, and dont deny yourself stuff. Have a bacon sandwich if you want one. Cut off the fat, grill the bacon and have it on brown bread. Tesco do amazing lowish calorie chocolate mousse. Use extra light mayo. Drink loads of water/ diluting juice if you find it a bit too plain.
Its easy enough, its just sticking to it thats the problem.
