| Quitting smoking induced fatness My bellys gone all pot-like in the three months since I stopped smoking.
I'm cutting a bunch of shit out of my diet and I know this is just my metabolism readjusting but does anyone know any handy ways to speed this shit up.
I don't even want to be fat in the short term. |

You need to stop eating sweets and binging during the day - try and stick to 3 big meals with no snacking if you can. Other than that, get grapes and cherries and have them around the house to munch on when you feel like eating something.

| Re: Quitting smoking induced fatness I have to say, since giving up smoking (August, I think? I've lost count) I've never felt so unhealthy.
A lot of it is, I think, coincidence, I felt better when I was doing constant damage to myself |

| Re: Quitting smoking induced fatness grapes are great actually, so's chewing gum and the likes of sherbet lemons and things that take ages to eat, and liqorice.
I found I tended to munch when I was bored or when I'd normally be having a cigarette.
Drinking a cup of water before dinner and letting it settle was pretty useful too. Means you don't stuff yourself at dinner and feel full when you're actually full.
Finding things to do's prob. the most useful thing though. I found if I was busy I wouldn't want to snack. |

| Re: Quitting smoking induced fatness I need to eat a riduculous amount of food to 'feel full'
Weirdly my diet hasn't changed (with the exception of christmas of course) cause if I started eating three big meals a day, as opposed to my current one snack, one healthy snack and one big meal, then I really would turn into a big fat bastard.
I'm glad not to be addicted to cigarettes anymore, but I really do miss them sometimes. Feels like I have a phantom limb between my middle and index finger. |

| Re: Quitting smoking induced fatness it's when I go out to a pub or club it still gets me.
The other hand just wants something to do. Something that involves holding a cigarette . |

| Re: Quitting smoking induced fatness There have been a few times over the past few months where I've really fancied a cigarette. Usually when I'm awake late at night.
The worst part is, in the first couple of months after I gave up [cold turkey from 20 a day], I was able to have the odd cigarette when I fancied it (no more than one or two a week) without getting any urges to get back into a habit. I'm forcing myself not to smoke at all just now, though, which is a bastard as this week has been enough to drive even the most militant of anti-smokers to cigarettes |

| Re: Quitting smoking induced fatness Water. Drink lots of it. Grapes are full if sugar (I know its good fruity sugar) but youd be better off with an apple.
I miss smoking. I blame that on my hideously stressful morning, I should just have bought a pack yesterday and been done with it.

| Re: Quitting smoking induced fatness I can eat several kilograms of chili before feeling even slightly full, I'm just guessing that none of the tricks to make you feel full work on me. Thanks anyway. |

| Re: Quitting smoking induced fatness I drink litres of water every day anyway, I quite often absentmindedly neck a pint of water before dinner to cleanse my palate and I've never noticed any difference. Literally, I feel 'full' less maybe less than 10 times in any given year. I can eat like a motherfucker, I just restrain myself from doing so normally, either out of politeness or a desire not to be fat. |

#15 | | Guest | Re: Quitting smoking induced fatness 2 drinks = loads of calories though. You need to keep an eye on what you're drinking because mixers are really high calorific value unless you're drinking slimline/diet, and even at that the difference is marginal.
Drinking more water is good advice though - your body can't differentiate between hunger and thirst, so most people assume they need to eat when actually a few glasses of water would sort them out.
