| Cracked Rib? Just thought I'd throw this one out there.
Anyone ever cracked a rib? I've never broken a single bone in my body however after some drunken tom foolery just over a week ago I fell badly and in the morning had a really sore side (and a bruised knee!). No bruise or any sort of obvious signs of damage surfaced as the days went by but the slight pain never dulled.
Its now 9 days on and if anything its even sorer than the day after it happened. Sneezing hurts like a fucker, as does coughing or even a hearty laugh! So my concern now is, do I bother going to the doc or is it a case of sit it out and it'll heal? I heard from a friend of a friend that the docs just say there ain't nothing to be done and just to take some painkillers if it hurts a lot.

| Re: Cracked Rib? From medical reports I have read for motor accidents where people have suffered cracked ribs, no treatment apart from painkillers is ever given. However, I am not a medical expert - a call to the NHS helpline might reassure you?

| Re: Cracked Rib? I once cracked a rib from coughing too hard, sounds unbelievable but true. I had a horrendous cough at the time, which of course left me in agony for days, coughing all the time and having a cracked rib. Nightmare.

| Re: Cracked Rib? Aye cheers, that's just as I figured. Its nothing I can't handle just pretty uncomfortable but at the end of the day it was my own damn fault - I won't be trying to rugby tackle bollards again thats for sure.

| Re: Cracked Rib? At the last kickboxing show I did someone got a cracked rib (big hefty round kick, if Lovey's reading this) and I've never seen anyone in that much pain. He was a big tough guy, but he really struggled to take it well. Made me wince.
Yeah, nowt to be done for you medically I would guess; hope it'll heal quickly. Remember to be responsible about painkillers if you combine them / are drinking, etc.

| Re: Cracked Rib? Hurts like a bastard, doesn't it? Fucked three of mine while boarding a couple of weeks ago while boarding on Nevis.
Worst bit will be turning over in your sleep..... and rapidly waking up when your body realises your weight is on the injured bit. Quote:

| Re: Cracked Rib? I won't be drinking all week and I have some Anadin Extra in the house which should be sufficient, I haven't had any painkillers since it happened and the pain hasn't been all that bad. It is a little worse now though.
As for the sleep thing, yeah thats a bastard. I'm quite a midnight squirmer at the best of times and not being able to sleep on my right side (arguabley my favourite sleeping side!) is harsh
Right, on with the grinning and bearing.

| Re: Cracked Rib? My sympathy is with you, breaking a rib is a fucker. I broke 4 in the one go. The pain was excrusiating. I went to the docs and he couldn't do anything apart from told me to rest and perscribed me some strong painkillers. Hope you feel better soon. |
