I was the same. But there is a huge sense of relief when you realise that it was caught in time & not 5, 10 years down the line. I find I preach at people all the time who put off getting their smear test. A wee loss of dignity & some mild discomfort is definately preferable to the consequences of not getting checked out. |

I really would talk you away from the jag - I had it and bled every day for 9 months, ended up having to go on the pill to try and regulate my system. My sisters are both using the patch and think it's amazing. | |

| Re: alternatives to the Pill? Please don't go near a coil. I had one for a good 4months and it was horrible. I found it really uncomfortable and painful at times during sex. It was making me really sick. I have oftern thought about the implant. At the moment im back on Microgynon 30. My doctor took me off it because i suffer cronic migrains and they thought this may have something to do with it. i was put on a different contraceptive pill which i was to take continually without stopping for 7 day. I can't remember for the life of me what it was called. |

| Re: alternatives to the Pill? Oh also, when I was doing all my research, I found out that pills are 88p a cycle, the Ortho Evra patch is £8 and the implant was just under £100. |

Would you rather end up with cancer years down the line?! | or not even cancer. i shall tell my smear story, are you sitting comfortably? then i'll begin
went to get my first smear at the doc. doctor couldnt take it, mild discomfort while she tried. she told me to come back in a couple of weeks. went back same thing. its not the hugest of fun, uncomfy. again couldnt take it. i got reffered to the hospital to have it taken. ended up getting reffered for an MRI scan (scarier than the smear. i had to be sedated) turns out i have a septate vagina (part way up it splits in 2), my womb is split in 2 and i only have one ovary. basically what that means is it'll be harder for me to concieve, higher chance of miscarraige, and it explains my AGONISING periods previous to going on the pill. again, it wasnt exactly fun to have done. at one point i was in the reclining seat thing, feet in stirrups with 4 WOMEN LOOKING AT MY FANNY! however ill still be going to get my next one, which will be quite soon i think. its 10 minutes every 3 years, just go GET IT!
things like finding abnormalities are so remote there isnt really anything to worry about, and its not *sore* just incomfortable. like having a metal willy shag yeh

You've had all manner of dirty boys down there but you've a problem with a nurse wearing gloves???
Get over it and go. Don't be so silly. It's not exactly a great day out, but it's two shakes and your done.

I went for mine 4 weeks ago and am patiently awaiting the results the now. Seriously, it doesn't take long, the nurse has seen it all before, and as a bonus I got a full STI test when I got my smear.

The dentist is likely to be really rather painful - the smear test is not. As I said, if you've had sex, it's a doddle. Not like the nurse cares if you've trimmed or not and she has clean hands.

What she says. I doubt anyone enjoys it but it is not exactly the worst experience in the world. Why put it off?
