| Re: alternatives to the Pill? ive been on the injection for the past 4 years, no bleeding at all or mood swings or weight gain although my doctors concerened about how long ive been on it for.
ive tried various pills ( 2 i think) and was ill on them both.... i guess what works with one person may not work with another and such like. my doctor was really helpful though

| Re: alternatives to the Pill? As far as I know there is no medical reason to have a break from the pill. At least that is what I have been told by my GP, Practice Nurse and Family Planning Clinic.
I was on it for 12 years before I decided I didn't want to be any more, but that was a personal and not a medical choice.

In my case I was on the jag and they worked it so that when the jag was due to get done again I got the implant then. I know when I got the jag I had just had a period but they gave it to me anyway and told me to wait a week before having sex without a condom, might be the same with the implant. |
yeah that would work if i was on the pill im a condoms all the way no hormones kinda gal at the moment. was thinking about implant tho

| Re: alternatives to the Pill? I can have a look for my work notes and put up all the information about different types of contraception available (which is a shit-load of information, and I will have to find the notes first cos I can't remember it all off by heart).
You could call the Sexual Health Line on 0800 567 123. They'll be able to bring up all the information I could give you, and I'm pretty certain they're open 24 hours a day. Similarly you could call Sexwise and pretend you're 18 (and anybody here between 12-18 can call, too) on 0800 28 29 30. Ya might even get to speak to me!
Like I said, if I find the notes I will copy up the information I can.... above and beyond the line of duty! |

I found this at http://www.fpa.org.uk/guide/contracep/conimp.htm#9 Quote: | When can I start using an implant? You can have an implant fitted at any time in your menstrual cycle if it is certain that you are not pregnant. If the implant is put in during the first 5 days of your period you will be immediately protected against pregnancy. If the implant is put in on any other day you will not be protected against pregnancy for the first 7 days after it has been fitted. So you will need to use another method of contraception, such as condoms, during this time.

still dunno about it tho | You should go to the Sandyford and have a chat to see what they say about each method and figure out what is suitable for you.
IMO the implant is the best method as it is very convenient and you don't have to think about contraception for 3 years. It is also a very effective form of contraception and I have never worried about being pregnant when using the implant whereas when I was on other methods I had some scares and always worried about it. |

Even your docter might do it. I know here I just get instantly referred to either Sandyford in Glasgow or the Russell Institute in Paisley. |

| Re: alternatives to the Pill? i havent read the whole thread because the replies from ruth and well ruth basically sum up what i would have said. go to the sandyford clinic and they will talk you through everything and its a really good free service. i only went along with ash when she was getting hers put in, but they were really nice. however i think they thought we were a couple which was a downside. so dont take your sister along with you!
