It's good that you have the balls to make such a big decision, but doctors might be reluctant to do it?
I'd love kids but I erm... can't have them and it's such a shame to see other people throw away such a beautiful thing.
How emo am I today? |

If you don't want to it's cool. |

I've also come to realise that there are loads of contraceptive websites that talk in this weird airy fairy kind of way. I dunno what the deal is but I'm looking up lots of different sources atm. How emo am I today? | Doctors on the NHS may be reluctant to do it but if that is the case I am prepared to save up and go privately, you don't even need a referral from your own doctor.
I'm sorry that you aren't able to have children but I don't think its ashame that I don't want any. We all have choices to make in our lives and this is one of mine. I have loads of possibilities of things I could do in my life but choosing not to do some of them doesn't mean I'm missing out, it just means I'm doing something else instead. Also, way too many people are indulging in this beautiful thing and its overcrowding and overpopulating our planet, I'm sure they will make up for me not having any. |

| I would definately discuss this more with a doctor before getting your hopes up on it. The procedure might not even be available in the UK. |

That isn't the only site I've looked at but that one is a UK website. Like I said, I don't plan to get anything done straight away, I will wait at least another 3 years before I make any kind of decision but it is good to know that the option is out there. |

| Re: Permanent Contraception A friend of mine had 2 children by the time she was 20, and her beautiful daughters are now 16 and 18. She decided when she got divorced in her early 20s that she would not want to have any more children regardless of her future relationships. She has been fighting for about 12 years to be sterilised via various health authorities as she has moved a couple of times and every one of them has told her that they don't want to sterilise her in case she decides at any point that she does, in fact, want another child. With 2 kids who are planning to move out either to uni or for work in the next couple of years she knows she never wants to add to her family. Really does irritate me that all of the many professionals she has seen have decided what is best for her, which is the opposite of what she wants.

that's the age most of my friends are at just now and some of them are just starting their families.
My friend was sterilised at the grand old age of 23, after having two kids. She's now divorced with 2 girls aged 10 and 14, engaged to a 26 year old and deeply regrets her decision to be sterilised at such a young age. |

| Re: Permanent Contraception I remember how I used to spend ages talking to Lorraine Purplerose about this a few years ago, just don't know if you'll change your mind, I'm one of those who were completely adamant I wouldn't have children because I didn't feel I would ever be in a right state of mind to do so. But things change and people grow.
I totally respect anyone's wishes to not have a child, all these questions of why and how do you know you'll not change your mind, would anyone ask a pregnant woman why they're pregnant, how they'll be sure they'll love their child and do anything to protect it. |

| Re: Permanent Contraception Well i'm 30 now and i have no interest in having children and i never have/ever will.
People dont seem to understand that as a woman you could possible not want children,
My family are still waiting for me to have some kind of hormone rush and to start to act like an insane lady who's desperate to reproduce before her time is up! 'NOPE SORRY IT AINT HAPPENING'
I dont use the contraceptive pill because basically it kills my libido stone dead, and what the hells the point of that? So condoms are my main option and as everyone knows their not exactly the most reliable of options!
I think i'll seriously look into this essure option and get back to you.
I work in pharmacy so i should be able to access all the relevant info about the procedure and any case study statistics that are available.
