Re: leg cramp?

I get this as well, the only thing I've found to work has been to wake up crying til your boyfriend wakes up to massage your leg til you fall asleep again....

So, any ideas why? Im overweight, but Im fairly fit, and my diet is normally pretty good. (lots of fresh fruit and veg etc)

Honey, you're gettting cramps because your potassium levels are low (due to your low carb regime). Go to your G.P and he/she will prescribe you supplements (you have to have the correct dosage as too much can be dangerous for your heart). It's quite well known that low potassium is common in low carb diets (especially if you drink any alcohol - dehydration) which manifests as leg cramps. Magnesium supplements (you can get these over the counter) are also a good idea. Also, try eat more broc/caul and asparagus....and drink less alcohol!

Re: leg cramp?

Have you increased your physical activity recently? I got similar symptoms when I went away to work at my first summer job. I was overweight at the time (not that I'm not now!) & not used to hard work. For the first couple of weeks I'd get really severe cramp in both legs that woke me up screaming in the middle of the night.

Don't have much to offer in the way of advice - I just worked through the summer, lost a bit of weight in the process and actually ended up with big muscly calves & thighs at the end of it!

And bananas! My dad keeps telling me to eat a banana after the gym to replace the potassium I used up by sweating...

I sleep on the inside of the bed by the wall, it's easier to lie there and let Darren take pity on me than clamber over him and then fall over everything that I'll have to pick up before I get back into bed.

*adds bananas to shopping list*

Yep, bananas are great for potassium, but Rach is on a low carb diet, so only the green veggies for her...

Re: leg cramp?

No bananas
I knew there was a reason I hated Atkins!

I only thought of it cos a couple of weeks ago I went into the steam room at the gym and there was a guy in the corner...eating a banana. Twas surreal, I tells ya!
