| Harry Potter likes 'Bigger' girls Sort of.. Quote:
JK ROWLING has criticised the culture of super-thin models and celebrities, branding them "empty-headed, self-obsessed, emaciated clones".
The author of the Harry Potter novels posted a self-confessed "rant" on her official website, in which she attacks society's obsession with women's weight and the reckless promotion of thinness over other positive qualities such as intelligence and kindness.
While Rowling does not identify anyone by name, she does ridicule the likes of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie and their obsession with miniature dogs and the latest handbags.

| Re: Harry Potter likes 'Bigger' girls Who can be bothered being intelligent and kind all the time, on the particular occasions when I really can't be bothered, being thinner would be useful.
Is that shallow? |

| Re: Harry Potter likes 'Bigger' girls I think there is too much emphasis put on size all together. Who's to say you can't be slim and intelligent? (I'd be happy to be either to be honest but never mind!) Who cares if you're fat/curvy/slim/skinny? Who you are on the inside doesn't change! ie - if Ms Hilton was 20 stone she'd still be a fuckwit - we just wouldn't see as much of her!

| Re: Harry Potter likes 'Bigger' girls Tigger makes an excellent point. How is this story even classified as news? It's not like she's saying anything really radical.
As for her thinking that Pink song's so amazing, I understand the "toothbrush-down-throat" bulimia gag in the video doesn't go down too well with those who've had eating disorders. Quote: |

And aye, its the people like Nicole Richie who have taken it dangerously far that I reckon shes on about. Look at Lynsay Lohan, shes getting dangerously thin.

| Re: Harry Potter likes 'Bigger' girls Aye so let's tell them they're wrong, because that'll cure them of eating disorders. Good one JK (Y)
I fucking HATE that Pink song, anyone else remember her video where she was wearing HER HANDS as a top? Daft bint.
JK Rowling's hardly curvy herself. |

| Re: Harry Potter likes 'Bigger' girls When does she ever say that at all? Her objection is that there is such a preoccupation with weight in today's society; clearly she feels frustrated by the fact that it seems to hold greater significance than other achievements. I think it's entirely fair enough to criticise this.
The point that Tigger made is pretty much what JK Rowling is saying. At no point does she say it's wrong to be slim, rather that it's wrong that there is so much pressure to be slim. |

| Re: Harry Potter likes 'Bigger' girls If shes that concerned about the portrayal of women in the media, then cast some better upholstered children in the next films - surely she has some kind of artistic control..? as it is, the only 'fat-kids' in Hp films are the bullies, crabbe and goyle - all of the beaux batons girls in the last film would probably be of the paris hilton/lindsey lohan ilk.
it's all very well to criticise the portrayal of women in the media and the influence that has over some young girls, but she could actually do something concrete about it.

It's a bit hypocritical to be so apparently keen on raising awareness of eating disorders, while citing stuff like:"Stupid Girls is the antidote-anthem for everything I had been thinking about women and thinness"
I know the whole toothbrush thing's meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but the more I see it the more fucking horrible it seems.
I still find it difficult to believe that eating disorders directly stem from magazine covers and the like, and I reckon it's quite patronising to make such a claim. With most chicks who develop these problems I reckon there's something far more going on. |

[/geek] | I don't think its fair to expect JK to go all diva and storm into the casting office screaming "I want fat kids". Her job is to write novels, and to start interfering in the casting of Warner Brothers films would be a bit un profesional I think....
On a side note, Neville one of the most interesting and generally 'good' characters in all the books isn't exactly a bean pole. The other thing is, her too most important female characters Ginny and Hermione are characters who start off as pretty awkward looking types and become "natural" beauties, hermiones inteligence though is far more important to the character than her looks anyway.
