| Garage etc recommendations I figure it’ll be helpful for us all to share details of garages, suppliers, etc we use who turn out to be really good. It’s always hard to know who to trust, and recommendations from a friend are the best way to go.
I’ll kick off. Performance Tyres
I had a puncture on Friday and realised that my tyres are a bloody odd size (because of having such an old car). Nobody local had any in stock, but these guys managed to get hold of some by 9am Monday morning and sent a van out to fit them at my home by half-past. Great service, and marginally cheaper than the few other places around town who could actually get hold of the right tyres. Performance Tyres have four branches: Anniesland, Paisley, Carmunnock and Ayr, and they act as a distributor as well as a supplier, selling tyres to many of the smaller outfits around Glasgow. Graham Harper
A tiny but excellent garage at 1103 Argyle Street, Glasgow. No website, look him up in the Yellow Pages if you need to. A small, friendly outfit, specialising in Citroens (particularly older ones) but will work on absolutely anything (they spent a couple of years slowly rebuilding a classic Cadillac, for instance). Cheap, skilled, no-bullshit mechanics. Pentagon Glass Tech
The best in the city if you ever want your windows tinted. Most outifts won’t tint cars like mine because the back window is too complex a shape, but these guys have done two for me, no bother. Good prices, incredible attention to detail, and a lifetime guarantee.

| Re: Garage etc recommendations WETS - West End Tyre Service
This place is on South street and their magic, i had a badly worn tread on my tire and called these guys, they had my tyre in and they are fantastic. I can't recommend them enough. They can usually get any tyre/any make in within 24 hours. Agmores Coachworks - No bullshit guys, check your car over for free to tell you whats wrong and happily send folk for parts sharp. They also do great bodywork if you've had a dent. Again cant recommend them enough their amazing and they oven wash your car. Also on south street.

| I'm sorry, but I've had 3 cars go to agmores and they've all been done very badly.
My dad stopped sending his taxis there now because they're so bad.

| Re: Garage etc recommendations I've got two guys I regularly use. The beetle goes to see a nice man called Tommy at Rockwell Autos, which is here. They can do most stuff, my MOTS get done there and they've done several minor things. They also replaced part of the clutch on the beetle - which involves taking the engine out, a fair sized job - and it was still cheeeeeap. The cars I've seen in getting bodywork done seem to look good at the end of the process.
My other guy is a man of few words down in Rutherglen. He's called Robbie, and his place is here roughly on the corner of Swanston Street and Strathclyde Street. The exciting thing about Robbie is that he does welding, and does it without charging silly amounts. That's a rare find. He welded the bit that holds the front shocks in, and the floor pans, in the Mercedes, and didn't skin me. Top bloke.

| Re: Garage etc recommendations Motortune
This one probably won’t be much help to anyone else on AltNation, but Motortune in Shotts are the best independent Porsche garage around Central Scotland, bar none. What they don’t know about Porsches (both classic and modern) ain’t worth knowing. They’re tons cheaper than an official Porsche Centre, proactive instead of reactive, and very reasonably priced. Last time I had to go pick my car up in the rain, the garage owner even picked me up at the train station and drove me round to the shop. Hannah Autosound
If you need an auto electrician in the city centre, I found Hannah Autosound to be pretty good. I had them fitting an amplifier for my stereo recently, and though they did fuck up a wee bit they were very quick to fix the mistake and totally professional about it. I reckon the test of a good service provider is how they deal with problems, and these guys did well. Also, they were honest to a fault: Told me up front that if I bought the amp through them it would cost X amount, but I could buy it elsewhere in town cheaper and bring it along for them to fit.

| Re: Garage etc recommendations If you're out greenock/port glasgow way have your car looked after down at Charles Cullen. Cullen motors behind the ESSO garage, I think you get in using the new roundabout not sure.
Charlie and his sons run the garage and do a very good job.

| Re: Garage etc recommendations www.caledonianvehicleservices.co.uk
Rover and Citroen specialist based near Ibrox tube station, what Eddie and Jim can't fix isn't worth bothering about. Two seriously experiences mechanics, and not too pricey either. They also fit tyres/exhausts and do MOT tests too. I've used them for years and years, top guys. |

Also I still have the same problem with the engine fan running all the time and it telling me coolant level is low even though it's almost full.
