Thats a very good point; the price that people are asking for their cars isn't necessarily the price they are actually getting for them. I'd imagine most private car sales go for an offer nearish the asking price, depending on desperation. You'll get a better idea of value checking with glass's and the like, or putting the details into a car buyer thing like we buy any car dot com (who will of course offer you something near the trade in value, you should be able to get a bit more privately).
