| Re: WoW Account Sold for $10,000± I just dont get why anyone would want to buy it, as lev mentioned earlier - surely the BEAUTY of having a top amazing character with SWORDS OF DEATH or whatever is that you worked for it! you gruelled through dungeons and put in alot of hours playing & enjoying the game, now your badass, amazing - and you can reap the rewards of your time by being badass.
buying a already made up character (for whatever amount it is, even if it was for a pound) seems a total waste in my eyes. Its stops it from even being a computer game in my eyes... |

It really doesn't surprise me, by buying the character he was the only guy in the world who could claim to have both legendarys from Illidan. Not saying i'd pay that for something like that, but there is people with more money than sense which it's not a problem for.
Think of it the same as buying ridiculously expensive clothes, just for a brand name. |

| Re: WoW Account Sold for $10,000± The guy who spent that money must have thought it was worth it, or he wouldnt have bothered his arse. There are guys who spend ten grand on a Penny Black they'll never use. And there's folks who buy a thirty grand Calamari Sportster or whatever the fasting testosterone motor is these days, when they'll mostly be doing 20mph over a council estate full of speed bumps and roundabouts. They're all a bit silly in much the same degree. But to express your outrage over the fact that some people cant even afford food, thats pretty silly too.
Cheers!

| I think you've summed up what I was coming in to say, I know fuck ALL about computer games and even less about WoW but doesn't it sort of cheapen the whole idea of a GAME if you can just buy your way around in it? Sort of like Chelsea? (I know fuck all about football too btw). |

Well there's a big difference between WoW and your average game and it's time consumption.
To get to Illidan, which is the end of end game, you basically would have to be in the top guild on your server. Even then you might still have to be lucky to get to Illidan. I'd estimate, that a dedicated guild...raiding 5 times a guild beginning from the first End-Game which is Karazhan. It would probably take a good 6 months minimum to get to Illidan. And that's minimum, some people will never even get to see Illidan. (Right now that's a lot of people).
So now that you have spent 6 months getting to illidan, you are now relying on drops. Both swords can't drop on the same kill, they have to be on seperate kills. You can kill Illidan 1 time every week, after the server maintenance. And a rough estimation on the chance on one of the legendarys dropping is around 2%. That's 1/50 for ONE sword.
Edit: Oh, and you also have to have the most DKP (Which you collect for attending raids) to win the item. Winning it once would probably cost all of your DKP, which you would need to spend a long time gathering again.
How many people have the time to play with those odds? Not very many, and you'd probably find close to 0 of those have an income high enough to splash out 5,000 quid on something like that.
Again, not saying i'd pay that but that's just how things are for those who dont know anything about WoW

| Re: WoW Account Sold for $10,000± What Richie said. I'd never buy a character for the reasons most people are saying. I think the point of a game is the playing not the status at teh end of the game. If you buy a 70 char you've missed out on alot of fun.

| Re: WoW Account Sold for $10,000± Anyone have any clue on the /played for that character? I'd *love* to know what some hardcore ultra-dedicated player ended up making on an hourly basis.
$1/hour? $3/hour? Minimum wage in the US is $5.85/hr...I'm fairly willing to guarantee that this guy selling his character made under minimum wage for all that time he spent.
"But he gets to play video games" - aye, I've got a few mates that are video game testers here in Vegas...they get paid a decent bit of scratch to play video games (and generally go home and play WoW...crackheads) |

Yay...) |

You still know you got there and he can't really affect you. Not quite the same as people using hacks in CS which can ruin the game for you.

| Re: WoW Account Sold for $10,000± But then, to someone who can afford to spend £5k on the character, the £5k wouldn't have been that much money anyway. by our standards its a lot, but by his it might just be pocket money.
