I actively level/quest in places where I know there'll be as much horde as alliance, mainly because druids hax and if it comes to it I have the best abilities at my disposal for running away

(entangling roots, nature's grasp, travel form, etc). As long as they land the killing blow there's no durability loss from PvP anyway.
There'll be times when you regret PvP cos, let's face it, everyone can be a cunt sometimes and will gank and even camp you. But in the same respect, when you manage to get your own back on that person (or even have a bit of fun pissing someone off yourself
though not camping them, that's lame) it all becomes worth it.
The best thing is when you find someone on an escort quest, wait until they're fighting a bunch of mobs and kill them then, ruining their quest

Anything goes when they're a shaman, after all.
P.S. nerf shamans!
