Having heard of Leon over a year ago and being intrigued by early stuff such as "Scratch" and "Make it Right",I went along to a Wonky Pop gig and loved him even more.
The album portrays an eclectic musical taste with influences ranging from Prince to Nirvana. This diversity can be seen throughout the album, with the first official single "Bed of Nails" providing a Beck/Madness feel to it.The lyrics are also very personal to Leon's own struggles with relationships, drugs and drink within his teens and on his way to today.
Latest single "Bring it On" proved fruitful, gaining airplay and popularity throughout the media. Sounding much like Steve Miller's "Abracadabra" on the way.
A few of my favourites include early track "Scratch" which is rocky and raw when seen live, and is understandably what drew Mark Ronson to work with him.
"Jumping off the Block" and "You must Know" are my two other favourites, following relationships at different times and showing the feelings of hope and loss in both Leon's voice, lyrics and the production.
Overall I feel Leon is a huge up and coming talent and he is a lovely man to boot. Super debut and a brilliant live presence to back it all up.
