What can I say about Opeth??
Maybe I am a little biased because they flow seamlessly through 2-3 of my favourite genres of music all in the space of 1 track. Not only that but they do it with a style and panache which leaves you almost beleiving that Classical Guitar work and Death Metal were desinged to be intertwined in this way!!! Which in itself is a steggering acheivement.
Dont be surprised to hear classical guitar verge into prog rock that Dream Theater would be proud of before blasting into Death Metal with unabashed fury, all in the space of 5 minutes.
The musicianship is almost peerless, and there are passages on this album which (as a musician) leave me with a huge grin on my face.
Opeth are pioneers in Genre-crossing, there are some more famous bands attempting to introduce different influences into their music, but they pale in comparison to this materpiece!
