Oh man, I remember T in the park 1997(-ish!). Dreich constant drizzle & cold, cold cold that year. I think it was Chumbawamba who'd missed a plane or had equipment stolen or something and were late so The Supernaturals were given extra time on stage.
They'd already played their whole set including encore and for a minute seemed lost as to what to do. Then they looked to the crowd asking "Do you want to hear something new or do you want to hear 'Smile' again?". The answer was unquestionably for the power pop-punk good time hit single. They played Smile for the second time and the crowd reaction was even better than the first - one of those moments in gig history you just had to be there but knew it was never gonna be recorded for posterity as good as it felt down there 'halfway to the front, slightly off to the right'.
It was the highlight of the day and the weekend, and still to this day a decade later, after months worth of days & nights spent at music festivals, it remains one of the most memorable festival sets from any band.
Afterwards I headed off to get a hot chocolate to avoid hypothermia.
